What is a pinch or a dash?
I wasn't sure exactly sure what a pinch, dash or drop truly was, again, the google monster was unleashed! Here are simple conversion charts that I now use (after I gave up Googling EVERYTIME I needed measurements.) Enjoy!
Additional Cookbook Terms:
Firmly Packed
Pack the ingredient into measuring cup. (measure as much of the ingredient as you can fit into the measuring vessel)
Lightly Packed
Press the ingredient into the measuring cup lightlyto remove all air pockets, but do not pack it too much either.
Even / Level
Measure the amount exactly, removing any amount of the ingredient that rises above the rim of the measuring cup. Use the back of a butter knife to level the excess.
Rounded
Scoop ingredient to the top of the measuring cup, allowing it to pile up above the rim into a rounded shape.
Heaping / Heaped
Scoop as much of the ingredient on top of the measure as it can hold.
Sifted
Sift with a metal strainer/sifter before measuring. Sifting is key to making sure ingredient is not compacted.
